I finally did it!
After years and years of contemplating and saving pictures on Instagram, I finally did it. I dyed my hair blonde. I always thought the first color I would die my hair would be red. But when I cut my hair last fall, I knew that once summer hit, I wanted a cute blonde pixie! Señora Rona provided me lots of time to do my research.* insert YouTube search*
We all have that one friend that we go to to discuss the drastic life decisions that we make, and mine is Chane. Anything that I have ever contemplated doing to my hair I pass by her first. I told her what I wanted to do, and she was 100% in. We sent pictures and YouTube videos back and forth, deciding whether we were going to attempt to do this ourselves or bring someone in. Because it was such a radical change, I was a little hesitant to do it myself. So Chane reached out to her friend, Kim, who is a beautician, to dye my hair.
I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty anxious about it. I sat in the chair with a towel around my shoulders and my knee bouncing feverishly.
“What is it going to look like?”
“Will it look good on me?”
“Is my hair going to fall out?”
As I felt the cold concoction hit my scalp, I realized that it was happening. Nervous and excited, but I couldn’t wait see the result. Chane sat across the room, giddy with each shade change. “It’s happening!’ She exclaimed, documenting the entire thing. Since we were home, there were no big mirrors to sneak a glimpse of the changes. I patiently waited until the dye was rinsed out and my hair was washed.
Time for the big reveal.
Chane grabbed her phone to record a live reaction. I walked into bathroom, turned on the light, looked up, and there it was. I was blonde. It was a nice golden color, that to be honest, I wasn’t expecting. I liked it but I wanted to go lighter. Kim explained that going from black to blonde is often a two step process. I would need to wait a week or so before processing my hair again. No one wants to over processed hair, no matter how long or short it is.
So the next week, after discussing it with Chane of course, I decided to lift and tone my hair myself. With a tutorial cued on my laptop, I stood in my bathroom, gloved donned, ready to go. When I washed out the purple shampoo, I was ecstatic. It was exactly what I wanted. I loved it. It was chic, sassy and flawless.
I don’t know if I’ll ever go back!
