I’ve been following this beauty influencer industry for a few years now and its interesting to me that after a while everyone starts to look the same. They all do their makeup the same and curl their hair the same way using the exact same tools. One of the reasons I started looking at tutorials on YouTube or following pages on Instagram, was to see learn different ways of doing things. At first it would only take a few minutes to find different tutorials, but as time went on, I had to dig a lot harder to find a different opinion. Are we all becoming carbon copies of each other?
Beauty is such a personal experience. We all have things about us that are unique and special. From the shape of our eyes, to the curves in our hips, to the size shoe we wear. I have yet to meet a woman who is completely happy with themselves, because they are wishing they had what the girl next to them has. If you have straight hair, you want it curly. If you have curly hair, you want it straight. Someone thinks they aren’t thin enough, thick enough, light enough, or dark enough. I’m guilty.
I would like to challenge the traditional definition of beauty. I believe that beauty is as individual as we are. We get to decide what make us happy and feel beautiful. Your bald head and my 32 inch weave. Your acrylic set of nails and my natural ones. Your all black wardrobe and my bright eclectic one. All the ways we are different make us the beautiful people we are.
So today, and every day moving forward, I would challenge you to be the your own kind of beautiful. If you don’t know what that is, try something new until you find it. Let’s bring out the beautiful YOU!
