“ We have a 34yo AA female w/co intense headache on and off for the last 8 years. Occasional nausea and vomitting that resolves on its own. Observed spontaneous tears, quickly replaced by stoic demeanor. PT states that she has lost and gained weight several times over the course of the last few years. Her sleep is inconsistent and of poor quality. States that she goes long periods of time without eating, sleeping or using the restroom. Mentioned she experiences emotional abuse from those around her whom she intends to help, however denies need for assistance.Vitals remain stable with occasional episodes of tachycardia.”
Often times as nurses, we spend our time caring for and thinking of someone else. We put ourselves on the back burner and never think twice about it. From taking lunch at 3 in the afternoon, to only realizing you haven’t used the restroom until you are priming your IV tubing. Those are prime examples of the type of physical neglect we experience, not to mention our mental stress. There are experiences we have daily that shape us not only as nurses but as human beings. I never realized how important it was to feel and express my feeling until I began working in the field. I hope that by sharing mine you’ll be able to take a peek into my world and we can chat about it.
